HOME

Facility Description: The Washington State Penitentiary houses long-term older, violent, and more serious offenders in four distinct housing areas that range from Security Levels II through V. They are, respectively: Minimum Security Unit (MSU); Medium Security Complex (MSC); Close Security Housing (main institution); and Maximum Security (Intensive Management Unit - IMU).

Work Experience: Institution support positions are available in areas including food service, janitorial, and various maintenance functions. A large vegetable garden produces thousands of pounds of fresh produce used to supplement existing food supplies. Excess perishable foods are donated to local area food banks. Correctional Industries programs include license plate manufacture, sheet and welded metal production, wood and upholstery restoration, sign production and refurbishing, mattress production, a hog farm, and a dairy/heifer farm. EarthRay (a Class I industry) produces a variety of re-usable bags, i.e., sports, duffle, shopping, garment, etc.
